Australian Mathematics Competition
Once again, Normanhurst Boys have excelled in the annual Australian Mathematics Competition. Over 200 boys were awarded a Distinction or higher. This is an outstanding achievement and all boys are to be congratulated. Boys deserving of special mention are the 5 Prize Winners: Christopher Ho, Geoffrey Li, Timothy Tsang, Mark Virgona, Christopher Zeng. There are 32 boys who achieved a High Distinction.

Lions Youth of the Year Quest
This brilliant student leadership activity runs internationally, nationally and locally. It has been operating in NSW Schools since 1962 and Normanhurst has an amazing record. In 1969 Paul Gibbeson (brother of a recent maths staff member) won the National title and was rewarded with a world trip to an international conference, a fore-runner to a great international law career. The local West Pennant Hills Lions Club donated our assembly lectern to mark this event.

Kevin Gatdula of Year 11 made an excellent decision to participate whilst still preparing for the 2012 swimming carnival and his first HSC assessments. Kevin spoke brilliantly (on “Making Yourself Interesting”) and many felt his impromptu presentations outstripped all other candidates. Unfortunately, Kevin came up against an exceptional student from Pennant Hills High School and was placed second after the interview stage. The standard was amazing and this was the first time in 5 years that a Normanhurst boy will not be representing the strong West Pennant Hills – Cherrybrook Lions Club. We wish Nicholas Moor, Shaun Magee and Sam Wiggins all the best in the quest next year.
